Effective July 1, 2015, the fine for uninsured drivers caught driving without insurance in Tennessee increased from $100 to $300. After January 1, 2016, the police can have your car towed on the spot if you are unable to produce proof of valid insurance. Leading up to January 1, 2017, Tennessee will be creating an online insurance verification program. The system has the ability to identify uninsured drivers through their vehicle registrations. Vehicle owners without insurance will not be able to renew their vehicle's registration.
